Sam Wright was pick number 27 in the 2008 AFL draft. Sam is a 188cm utility who is equally at home playing in the back lines or forward lines, although he has settled in AFL ranks playing as a defender. He was an integral member of the Murray Bushrangers 2008 TAC Cup premiership.

Sam made his AFL debut for the Kangaroos in round 8, 2009, against Geelong at Geelong. He has now played over 120 games for the Kangaroos, starring in their 2014 and 2015 finals series. He has finished in the top 10 of the Kangaroos B & F twice and is contracted to the club until 2019.
